28-year-old midfielder speaks out about his decision to depart from Arsenal in the summer

Aaron Ramsey has revealed he was forced to ‘look at other options’ after the opportunity to extend his Emirates career was taken away from him.

The Wales international spent 11 seasons in north London, cementing his reputation as a Gunners legend with winning goals in both the 2014 and 2017 FA Cup finals.

Aaron joined Juventus on a free transfer in the summer having, at one point last season, been on the brink of signing a new long-term contract at Arsenal.

Questioned if he was given a reason as to why the proposal of a new deal was reneged upon, the player told the BBC: ‘Yes. It was in the end.

‘There was a lot of confusion and a lot of things were up in the air. The decision was made and that was the situation, so I had to look at other options.

‘Arsenal are going through a transitional period at the moment. They have many great players and a lot of talent coming through.

‘They are definitely going in the right direction – but my situation now is at Juventus. I have an unbelievable opportunity at a massive club.

‘I just want to be part of this now. Hopefully I can help my team-mates and my club achieve some great things on the big stage.

After his start to the campaign was delayed by a hamstring injury which ultimately ended his Gunners career, Ramsey has quickly established himself as a key figure in the Italian manager Maurizio Sarri’s new-look team.
